ECE 250 - Supporting Literacy and Language Learning for Dual Language Learners


Credits - 3 Lecture - 3
This course focuses on the language, reading, writing, and communication development of children who are dual language learners (DLLs), ages birth to five years. Connections are made between assessment and instruction that promote early language and literacy learning for children who are DLLs. The emphasis throughout the course is placed on fostering language and literacy learning by building on the family and community connections of young children who are DLLs. The course guides planning for observing, assessing, and working with young children who are DLLs through shared experience among fellow course participants. The focus is on teaching all children to develop oral and written language abilities in their home language(s) and in English.

Course Designation: C/T Elective - A maximum of 12 credits of college-level career and technical courses may be used as electives in the A.A.O.T. and the A.A.S. degrees.
