EMT 163 - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Part A 6 Lecture - 5 Lecture/Lab - 1 Covers Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) emergency medical procedures. Introduces the roles and responsibilities of the technician, emergency pharmacology, venous access and medication administration, electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring and management of dysrhythmias, airway management and ventilation, and advanced airway techniques. Includes medical patient assessment and management; trauma assessment and management; and special considerations such as pediatrics, geriatric, and environmental emergencies. Emphasizes clinical decision-making. Covers procedures related to airway, oxygen, ventilation, shock, intravenous, intraosseous, and ECG monitoring, defibrillation, pharmacology, and field protocols in the laboratory component. The clinical experience requires the student to observe patient assessment and evaluation in both an emergency department and an ambulance. Students successfully completing the Advanced EMT course sequence will be recommended to the National Registry of EMTs and the Oregon State EMS Office for the certification process.
