CJ 120 - American Court Systems and Practices Credits - 3 Lecture - 3 This course will introduce students to the role of the judiciary in the criminal justice system by examining the structure and function of both federal and state courts systems in the United States. Topics include jurisdiction, venue, roles of court participants, due process and post arrest procedures employed in adjudication, the grand jury process, types and rules of evidence, sentencing concepts, and appellate review. Prerequisite: WR 060 or placement Term(s) Offered: Winter Course Designation: Elective - A transferable course that can be used to fulfill undesignated elective requirements in the associate’s degree programs.
