HE 253 - Personal Nutrition Credits - 3 Lecture - 3 Orientation to the importance of a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol while high in complex carbohydrates and fiber. Emphasis will be on helping participants choose healthy, low fat foods while still enjoying their diets. The course will include an introduction to nutrients and their uses and food sources, as well as discussion of current topics including weight management, eating disorders, exercise, fad foods and diets, recipe modifications, and reducing risk of disease related to high-fat diet. Course Designation: Discipline Studies - A transferable course that meets distribution (group) requirements in the associate of arts Oregon transfer (A.A.O.T.) degree and the associate of science (A.S.) degree. Note: Courses meeting distribution requirements may always be used as electives in the transfer degrees.
